Report

A fine night getting colder greeted trailers to the final trail at Bower House for the early season meets.

The Senior trail provided us with four hound finish where Fireman Sam came from fourth place to show in front through the last gate and held on over the fast finishing Galemire with last weeks winner Serenity and favourite Try Again in fourth.

The Junior trail gave a first open success to both the Jacksons Bewitched and the Patterdale hound ‘ Kooga’ the Judge couldn’t separate them.

Daisy Dream looking for a five timer was back in fourth. It was reported last week that she was named after a perfume- true said one wag you get it on the market.

The non-winners and another close finish between last weeks two second finishers Chavenel and Mickledore the former getting the nod by a head.

Onto the final event-I suppose you could call it the trail nobody wants to win and tonight was no exception judging by Neils  face when congratulated on his win. The Judge.once again had to consult the camera and a head denied the ‘ Oldcorn clan’ a double.

Well done to the promoters for a fortnights ‘Bower’ trails 387 runners close finishes. drama spiced with humour. and thanks to Steve for the field which came close to being prematurely ploughed.

PS. Who caught the  wrong hound, bait. lead. and away. clue?

Report

A cold and breezy night greeted followers to the third meet at Bower House.

Only twelve Seniors faced the starter in the seniors, nevertheless, it proved to be an exiting contest.  After ten minutes, very little separated the first four. Led by ‘Galemire’ – Fireman Sam the odds-on favourite took up the lead onto the fell.  As they approached the finish it was Celtic Malone from Serenity but in the final stride Serenity put her head in front with the third, fourth and fifth close behind.

In the Junior trail, ‘Daisy’ scored her third course win making it a winning double for the Donaldson kennel- Bewitched ran a promising race in second with Menorah in third.  Daisy Dream carries on the kennels tradition of ‘perfumed names’.

Jimmy Nik (James Nicholas on Sunday) showed his liking for the course with a fast diminishing three metre victory over Mickledore in the maidens.

And in the open restricted 2010 puppy Champion Westgate Gypsy won easily- that is the second hound in a week to lose its maiden tag in a restricted trail.

There are three videos on you tube the final race wasn’t aired .

Report

On a fine, sunny evening, it was a pleasure to be in Borrowdale for the first of the Keswick area trails. Only five faced the starter for the Seniors. Three from the same kennel and Langdale Ranger showed his rivals a clean pair of heels winning by the proverbial mile. The fifth hound finishing as the pups were about to slip.

The juniors and favourite Daisy Dream notched her third win of the season when she beat ‘Kooga’ by twenty metres. Although visibility was hazy, it seemed that some of the leaders ran wide on the fell and put themselves out of the race. What were they? not sure but one was a ‘red’un’.

Thirty runners in the open maidens and the Grahams (nearly) Tommy’s Legacy had an easy victory over much travelled Jimmy Nic.

The All-in provided the closest finish of the evening with just a couple of yards separating the first three. As we finished for the evening and one hound missing – I was directed to the road crossing with ‘lookout for the only scots pine’. Found the crossing place and half expected  ‘Laurel and Hardy’.

Report

Prudence, reigning champ, got off the mark when she registered a half a length win over last seasons junior champ Endure.

The Junior trail was a replica of Thursday night, Santino joint favourite holding off the challenge of local hound Bracelet and kennel mate Silver Charm (see photo).

We will not say a lot about the OM except it took two seconds longer than Thursday night (going backwards already).  Sugar Ray had to run he was being chased by three clipped dogs.

The all-in – you will all have different opinions over this- any proposals?

The race – there wasn’t much between the leaders and the times were comparable.
