Report. Nothing about  how far they won by but what happened outside, only, because that is where the afternoon was spent.

The seniors and conclusions drawn  was that the third , fourth and fifth hound would have been a lot closer if they hadn’t ‘missed’ the gate, at the last road , first one way then the other, just enough to count ,perhaps/ other than that not taking away from Jenny who had led practically all the way.

The senior maidens and first go to work the roadside wall at the first road, they managed to ‘drush ‘it- combination of weight perhaps? They ran wide in the field prior to crossing the last road and, on crossing the road ,which gives the hounds three options, they took all three -the hen run- the wrong gate and the right gate.

Now having explained the three options -along come the pups -Marlou on her own then ‘Daisy’ and ‘Jenny’s  who found route number four, at first  Hard Knott was favourite then a trip around somebody’s field then over the wall – by this time the rest had ‘flown’.

The last two trails went to order both winners led across the last road.

Just a scouting tale  Two young ladies in a convertible stopped at the red flag ,then started to edge forward- consequently I moved forward , waving the flag and mouthing ‘stop there’ -Again they edged forward – ‘Please I said the hounds are crossing  can you stop, ‘ Sorry ‘she said’ we’ re trying to ask you where Eskdale camping site is ‘Then the bloody wall fell down. Who will put it back – Well I left a message-‘ quite a number of old coins were lodged in the wall.’  Volunteers quick march!

Report : A fine night ,a typical September evening, competitive trails although a bit on the short side.

The senior trail and as they turned towards the finishing fields were we in for a surprise as Canny Girl was ‘driving’. But ‘Arnie’ and Tommy took over with Prudence stalking them. As they reached the bottom of the first meadow it was head to head -Tommy and Prudence and these two battled it out to the line where ‘ladies first’ by a head, Arnie was third and a canny run in fourth.

The puppy trail and a high class field where the placings were determined by how you negotiated the turn into the final two meadows. The juniors split into two groups, ones that were right turned left and the ones that were wrong went straight. Santino gave Persian Bay a race  and was closing the gap but ‘Bay’ held on for her fifteenth win.

The restricted trail was dominated by Two Tone and Barton, the former gaining the upper hand in the final few yards to win by half a length.

Now, the biggest smile of the night and a medal for perseverance Denis Reay — Hunters got round.

Report: A beautiful evening in Kentmere, that is if you’re not a hound. . You couldn’t help but sympathise with Pat and Jane when, with the maidens at his mercy, Jazz Band decided it was time for a drink in the adjacent beck. What’s more he was racing for the Ernie Smith memorial trophy sponsored by Pat and Jane and holds special memories of the genial Ernie.  Jazz Band was at least the full length of the finish in front but no amount of encouragement could move him and Howgill Benella took full advantage to notch her first win of the season for Ian and Ann Bell.

Back to the seniors and once again dominated by the two Jenny’s and coincidently and I can verify this as ‘gospel’ they finished first and second on the 24th August in a time of 28.20 and that is exactly last nights time. And stepping up a gear was Where’s Wallie in third.

It was an evening of deja-vu as the first two juniors were as of the last meeting ,. Thorn Dancer finished far too strong for Marlou with Bewitched in third making it a 1-2-3 for three sisters.

In the veterans and ‘Trent’s’ winning streak came to an end when He could only manage fourth behind Tiagress and Thorn Girl, these two were separated by a couple of lengths with Cinnabar in  third.

Report  ; A little bit sketchy due to ‘being on call’

We’ll start with the maidens and as you can see the result was nearly identical to the last trail at Lorton only Foxparke Turbo is different and if you recall  it should have won that trail. The Napiers again having five of the ticketing hounds.

In the pup trail the hounds when joining the senior trail ,basically they turned right instead of left, therefore in trailing terms , with the help of some stock,   struck it a*** ways about ,that is all bar one who having’ missed the wall ‘ and became detached from the rest didn’t put a foot wrong’ and duly won the trail in a ‘hack canter’ well done Artist. That is when the ;charge of the scouts took place as now unguarded roads would have to be manned. In the end all eight hounds were caught without any mishaps.

The puppy maidens negotiated the join better than their counterparts although five hounds were undecided which way to go. In the end it was ‘castaway’ Chaos’ again from the Napier stable that ‘flew’ down the final meadow to win from Silver Lining and Bluebond.

Back to the seniors and Quiet Linnet  dropped down the fell in pole position with Tommy’s Legacy and ‘Arnie’ in second and third with Sambuca and Night  Vision close up , these five were well clear.. I believe Sambuca stopped at the last beck and ‘Arnie’ won by a short head

Vets      1 Da Look  2 Tiagress 3 Cinnabar 4 Thorn Girl. 5 Ran four finished Time 19.08. Also Ran -Freebie.

Report: A fine day for the  trails at Lowick Show ( three fields away) and versatile Tan Ted and his brother Endure had a battle royal up the slight incline to the tape ,Tan Ted won by a length with previous winner Lady Bethan in third and champion elect Prudence in fourth.

A disappointment in the pup trail when both Daisy Dream   and Paloma Faith returned to the start, they both came up the finish and trail had been called but had been spotted on the starting end. The door was now open for Huntsman’s Kraka and she duly obliged albeit only by a head from Santino with Lone Rebel finishing third passing the tired Dairy Thunder who had led onto the finish .

The open maidens and two hounds dominated the finish , Casanova and Jazz Band , the former proved the stronger and tiring rapidly Jazz Band held on for second place over the evergreen ‘What Look’ and talking of evergreen ,Da Look seems to be getting more sprightly in his old age as he notched up another veteran , at the expense of Settle homed Tiagress..By the way that’s nine vets  on the trot for Da Look!

Report. A typical September evening  weather  wise  and Wendy didn’t need any boxing gloves . Arnie 7/4 came in front on the long downhill stretch and he didn’t falter when meeting the uphill section to the finish. He was chased home by his sister Marli and in third the reluctant ‘Little Messy ‘.

The pups and Persian Bay’s championship challenge was back on song when she beat Bracelet by ten meters ,Persian Sky another title challenger was pipped for third place by Paloma Faith.

And in the last Littman led down the fell but fell back on the uphill finish ,where Carrick beat Mrs Mac  by five meters and Two Tone in third.

Vets           1 Da Look 2 Celtic Spirit 3 Thorn Girl 4 Tiagress 5 Cinnabar 6 Night Shadow  9 Ran .Time. 20 10.Also Ran. Valhalla Celtic Brave -Celtic Warrior.

Report. Low Place -the other way around. Jenny’s Choice led adjacent to the ‘field’ but ‘Galemire’ wasn’t far away . Jennys led up the last meadow and it was only in the dying strides that ‘Galemire’ got up to win. Night Vision was a handy third and Capetown in fourth.

The juniors and after an early scale four hounds ‘got away’. When they ‘showed’ ‘Kraka’ had a good lead over ‘Daisy’ but in no time ‘Daisy ‘caught her and had a 50 yd lead going out of sight. Coming in to view and ‘Daisy now had an unbeatable lead and duly landed the odds.,Kinniside Joe was second and ,Kracka only finished sixth.

The maidens and ‘driving’ was one of the Miterdales but the rest weren’t ‘far away’. Out of the bracken came Blueboy with High Stile just behind, nip and tuck ,up the finish where in the final strides High Stile exerted to Win  and like Monday Free Spirit was next.

Da Look continued his rich vein of form with another easy win in the veterans . Celtic Spirit was second and as Sean remarked ‘getting closer’ soon be Wasdale Show .

Report: Prudence took another step in the way to retaining her senior championship when she held off the sustained challenge of Endure, in the end she won by five yards with the consistent Tan Ted in third , Sambuca was close in fourth .

Once again in the pups Persian Sky showed her liking for the course when she comfortably held her sister Persian bay with Arizona just touching off Silver Charm for third.

The maidens seemed to come in a group  but by the time the tape loomed Time Traveller had a good lead and the rest led by Sunset Ridge were evenly spaced out behind.

Report A fine afternoon for the second visit to Shap and a precursor for the October trails.

Once again Tan Ted showed his liking for the course and once again came from behind to pip Marli in the dying strides ,Lady Bethan was Ten meters back in third and the improving Denzil in fourth.

Deja-vu in the pups when Lone Rebel won once again . He too the lead from Jazz Band as they came off the fell and onto the winding finish, wining comfortably with Eden Rossi back in third.

Sparrowmire LIly ,a product of the Kyza-Dignity litter unraced as a pup rewarded her owners patience with a victory in the non winners . She didn’t go unfancied and she has some illustrious relations ( ok Ken). The placed hounds finished very close and catching The eye was fast finishing Black Eyed Boy..

On to the last and if you are going to win a restricted the idea is not to win it with a maiden. But nobody told Rooster as he fairly ‘flew’ to nail Mrs Mac on the line  with ‘Benella ‘ in third. Jack shrugged his shoulders and said ‘take me photo’ and Russel, happy with five points.

Veterans 1 Da Look 2 Night Shadow 3 Celtic Spirit 4 Celtic Brave 5 The Penny Arcade. 5 Ran Time 18.44.

Report; The question is why? did it take the two hounds that completed the course in the seniors over 48 minutes

The three hounds were 1=2=3 on Monday in a time of 32 minutes. The three hounds got to the puppy trailers waiting to ‘split/’ where they seemed to abandon the trail’ also it was reported that the local farmer was ‘slurrying’ and this can cause a hunting problem.

The short trails didn’t seem to have any problems and in the pups Arizona went to the top of the championship with a convincing win over ‘charm’ and Santino with Persian bay ,back running, finishing fourth.. Billy Bowe had every chance but fail to negotiate the final two obstacles.

Barton was an easy winner of the maidens and likewise Da Look easily beat his four rivals in the veterans.

Report. After ten minutes , Aspire was driving but the proverbial blanket would have covered the field onto the long ,slightly downhill finish and here the long odds on favourite Prudence had taken the lead and she won comfortably from Aspire, Spangle, and Sambuca who were close together.

In the pups the odds on favourite Arizona could only manage third behind the runaway winner Persian Sky and second Silver Charm. The winner won by ten meters and a similar distance between second and third.

Only five runners in the last and Neil Brown elected to shout for Izzy who beat Quiet Linnet by five meters. Acacia finished a tired fifth and after crossing the line ,stopped rolled on her back and with legs akimbo peed into the air which caused much mirth and prompted the odd ribald comment. What was said? No Comment!

Report;  The weather nippy and windy on the hill ,warm and pleasant on the show field- who would be a weather forecaster!

At halfway in the seniors and leading the way were ‘Arnie’ and ‘Grace’ just in front of a group of four, incidentally these were the first six over the line.

As you are aware the finish for the show trail is at the end of the trod whereas the ‘leaps ‘ finish goes to the end of the showfield. This has a marked effect on the results as the trod tends to be ‘first in wins’ and ‘Arnie’was in the trod first .

So to confound that theory Thorn Dancer led in the pups and Daisy Dream somehow passed her , and then upholding the situation ‘Dancer ‘then had to settle for second after running into ‘Daisy ‘ just before the line. Persian Prince and Bluebond had a similar battle for third and fourth . That was her twelfth  win of the season and now three wins separate the first four in the championship.

The biggest field of the day ,32 open maidens and the saying ‘ the bigger the field the bigger the certainty’ well,- priced at a prohibitive 2/1 on -Bedazzled lived up to her name winning comfortably from the rest ,who finished in a line led by High Stile.

Just ten runners in the final event and JLS took the honours with an easy win from ‘ Bessy’  these two were  clear of the third Howgill Blondie.

Seniors 1 Marli 2 Tan Ted 3 Lady Bethan 4 Night Vision 5 Little Messy 6 Washington. 10 Ran Time 28.35.

Report.  Viewing wasn’t at its best but it was good enough  to spot Marli ,in front ,on the long downhill finish. And dare I say she seems to be getting the ‘hang’ of this finishing, fore she kept coming and the improving finisher ‘Tan Ted’ couldn’t make any inroads to her lead and last times winner Lady Bethan was ten meters back in third,

Persian Gold came in front and missing was last times winner and favourite Lone Rebel, well. I say missing but he had overshot the trail and came in at different angle, finishing fourth behind Persian Gold , ‘Rossi’ And the singer ‘Paloma Faith’.

It was rather ‘murky’ for the last and much to Russell’s dismay Razzle Dazzle ,after a neck and neck race with Carrick prevailed by a length  with kennel mate Mrs Mac in third. This win completed ‘Razzles’ quota for the season ,hence the grimace, Wendy, well, she had a smile like a ‘Chesire Cat’
