Also Ran Cancellara – Silver Spangle – Jimmy Choo- Flash Dance –

Report. A nice morning on the start of a long day and an extremely boggy field at Dean where only 29 hounds contested the four events.

In the seniors Bracelet added one more to her championship total but ‘ Arnie’ wasn’t far behind and could be on the come back trail. Six out of the eight kept each other company for most of the trail and Westgate Belle, Arizona and Meadow Dixie could all feature in the closing weeks of the season.

Les bt Graham in the pups as Liz got the better of Just Mick by a couple of lengths and in the pup maidens Stand By just headed Wanted on the line for a head victory, all the ticketing hounds were in close contention and it was noted that Geoff Shouting for Kinnisides alternated between Nell and Bess . The final trail saw Ben 10 leading them a merry dance and he won nicely from Starlight , in the betting ring I think the score was Kenny 3 Ian1.

The incoming trailer in the pup trail was puffing slightly ,perhaps the trail rag was a shade heavy. LOL. 1-1

Report. Low Place in September and we divert from the left handed trails of early spring and run right handed through the fell adjacent to the field and finish in the meadow over the wall.

Fourteen seniors for the first trail and as they descended the fell the favourite ‘Gracie was closely attended by Jenny’s Delight. Huntsman;s Jewel – Songbird onto the finish and ‘Jewel ‘ would show with a few yards lead over ‘Gracie’ with Songbird in third and Capetown in Fourth.

The pup trail developed into a two dog race, Jenny’s Aura and General James. the former came in front and held on in determined fashion by a head from the ‘General’.

Apollo, who was getting his second only ticket of the season, finished fast to deprive fourteen winner Liz out of fourth ticket.

The maidens and Blueboy was made favourite but could only finish third to Kinniside Joe who was just in front of low side raider Full  House.

In the last trail Artisan once more showed she is a step above her rivals in the veteran division with another clear cut win over, this time, What Look and Pip’s Lad.

Report. We will start with the lesser lights and finally ‘Bobby’ got a win. Mike and Dot Wilding have travelled miles over the last few seasons and having the patience of Job. Well you could say their patience was rewarded when finally at the umpteenth attempt Bobby Dazzler got his head in front. Now the problem is what do we go for next? As Mike said ‘We are on a roll ‘  Look out!

The Senior trail and Pups was observed from  outside , the first seven in the seniors you could have covered with a blanket for most of the trail and the pups , here Telstar at one stage had a good lead but this was whittled away by Silver Dusk, then on the finish He had got his lead back , only to see ‘Dusk’ once more reduce the gap and go on to win by a couple of lengths , the remainder came together headed by Silver Dawn.

Report. A return to the Keswick area after a long break and a popular venue perched half way up Skiddaw behind Latrigg Fell affording views of the Keswick delta and surrounding fells, welcome to Latrigg Top.

Fourteen faced the starter for the senior hounds, being filmed for Japenese television ( I’ll let you know when its on) At halfway  one hound had a commanding lead ( a white one) but as they approached the long uphill drag to the line , Huntsman’s Jewel and Bedazzled came together closely attended by Ladybird, Jewel got up in the final strides to deny Bedazzled and Ladybird was a few yards back in third.

In the pups the favourite and championship leader Jenny’s Aura was unplaced and the spoils went to Kendal hound Buble, who finished well to beat Saturdays winner Kenmore with Overwater Hally in third and Yorkshire Lad  behind the judge for fourth.

The largest field of the evening for the maidens and Silverbelle from Lindale finished strongly to deny Meadow Josie with the remaining ticketing hounds close behind.

The final event and not as first printed ( writers blip) was a win for Kerrymore who came from behind the ‘red un’ Bewitched to win going away , Bewitched touched off Razzle Dazzle for third and veteran champion elect Artisan in fourth.

Open Maidens 1 Bluebond 2 Sugar Ray 3 Foxparke Invisible 4 Billy Whizz 5 Come Home Alfie . 11 Ran only 5 finished. time 28.03

Report .. A fresh venue and two fresh winners .

In the seniors Jenny’s Choice must have led for most of the trail only to be mugged by both Songbird and Sambuca in the closing stages . This was Songbird ‘s first senior success having been puppy champ in 2014. A clear book for the three bookies . No! two of them .Yes! but the third and owner of the winner, a tale of woe.

Carrying on the tale of woe, the two bookies sneaked off home and that left one  and what was the outcome, the punters who stayed on the mist shrouded field backed one only , the winner, Bluebond who held on for a head victory. It was reported to have been another ‘silent finish’. Only five of the eleven finished as the remaining six returned to the start after a minute.

The Chair was quite happy with second place and Joe looked chuffed to be in the winners enclosure.

The General keeps marching on and win number 15 came at the expense of Just Mick , Liz, And Huntsman’s Loyal, these four being well clear of the other three.

Report. A beautiful day in the Lorton Vale for the annual Loweswater Show and ,apart from the space between trails due to the pups running first, it was a pleasure to witness four excellent trails.

The pup trail run first and the Glenridding Pup Jenny’s Aura strengthened  her position at head of the table with an emphatic victory over Silver Dusk and Quiet Otter.

The pup maidens and following up Thursday’s non- winner success, ‘Popeye’

fairly legged down the final meadow to register a fine win over Summer Rose and  Kinniside Nell close up in third.

Finally the seniors and a first win of the season for Overwater Bessy who held off the challenge of Ladybird to win by a narrow margin. In the maidens ‘Kinniside Joe’ defied the pundits with this victory over Meadow Josie. according to Ian ‘ I’ll give you any price that he will win in a tight finish. The Foxparke stable came away from the meeting with seven tickets, Brian didn’t have to dance

Report Another Show and another wet day , a quiet day (ish) , and the beck on the finish had the final say in two of the trails.

In the seniors and after finishing last at Ennerdale Show on Wednesday , benefiting from a scale, Flawless finished alone today , much to the surprise of her owners who didn’t believe ‘Batty’ when told ‘she is on her own’. Then! who would believe ‘Jim Bob’.

In the pups and the ‘General ‘ came from third place , only to find he didn’t like ‘doggy paddle’ and forfeited the lead back to Kenmore and Huntsman’s Loyal, who had a great race to the line , Kenmore winning by a head.

The Maidens and a first strike for the Reid Kendal Stable   when Sparrowmire Angel came from third place to beat Grange Music and Mrs McGregor.

And in the last a surprise as Artisan failed to get a ticket , the spoils went to the easy winner Tinkerbelle who finished clear of Da Look.

Report. It hasn’t been a bad week weather wise , has it ? NO ! not until  you arrive at Fellside and get blown away, cold and nearly wet, not a pleasant night and not for the lone bookie either as the three ‘jollies’ duly obliged.

The first one and keeping up her championship challenge , ‘Marli’ who drove all the way in front of Jazz Band , whom Bracelet passed on the uphill finish to gain second.

The pups and four hounds descended together when reaching the uphill section to the tape, Jenny’s Aura struck the right trod and held on in an exiting finush to win from Buble and Sweet Harmony.

The last race and an overdue success for the Jonese’s Starlight , after being beaten by a short head on Monday, she won clear cut tonight from Menorah and Razzle Dazzle.

Report. We have had all types of weather on Cold Fell this season and today was no exception, the sun shone., making it a pleasant day.

In the seniors Galemire Grace ,under the watchful eye of part owner Ian Hunter, finished far to strong for Persian Bay, who had led on to the finish, and notched up win number eight keeping her in touch with the championship leaders.

The senior maidens and Les Tyson’s Lady Anne completed her quota for the season with a clear cut victory over Layla and Kinniside Joe.

The pups and course specialist Buble run of wins came to an end when Sweet Harmony overhauled her in the final ten metres, Manna was third and these three were well clear.

The puppy maidens and they came down the fell in one long line, where Jazz Lyric came clear, to deny the Holmes family a double, when Stand By was placed second.

The biggest field of the day saw another course specialist Mr Ant win with the smallest of margins from Starlight with Cartier in Third.,

Grasmere Sports Sunday Aug 28th.

Seniors 1 Jenny’s Delight 2 Overwater Bessy 3 Huntsman’s Jewel 4 Ladybird 5 Jenny’s Choice 6 jenny’s Rose . 13 Ran Time 30 25.

Pups 1 General James 2 Yorkshire Lad 3 Manna 4 Spring Rose 5 Overwater Hally 6 Jenny’s Aura . 7 Ran Time 17.52.

Open Restricted 1 Remember Me 2 Eden Rossi 3 Menorah 4 Huntsman’s Hope 5 Yogi Bear 6 Cherish . 14 Ran Time 16.22.

Veterans 1 Da Look 2 Artisan 3 Jacob McClink 4 Tagget 5 Cinnabar 6 Tinkerbelle . 8 Ran Time 16.55.

Report. Grasmere Sports or Show held under the watchful eye of the ‘Lion and the Lamb’ or Helm Crag. The home of the Fell Derby , one of the prestigious events in the calendar, which most followers refuse to attend, why?  perhaps £6 is to expensive , well it should have been £7, some kind hearted person sponsored all to a £1 deduction.

And not without controversary as four hounds descended the fell together , across the main road and onto the sports field where Jenny’s Delight, held off the determined challenge of Overwater Bessy, winning by a head. The Judge, first and second catcher were unamimous in that the right  decision was given contrary to a photo taken from in front of the hounds.

The mornings trailing began with the pups and General James looked an all over certainty , but with a few yards to go dropped his nose allowing Yorkshire Lad to ‘go on’ but the ‘General ‘recovered and won by a head with Manna in third.

The Open Restricted and a minor shock as Remember Me , remember the International and the Dog Produce, put a miserable season behind him when holding off the challenge of Eden Rossi and Menorah. Well done Jeanette and Les, hound trailing stalwarts ,never complaining, well! only about each other, an example others should follow.

Then followed the ‘old timers’ who nearly went the wrong way at the start , you would have thought that they had never run here ,.– Da Look last years winner , once more showed his liking for Grasmere when beating Artisan and ‘Jacob’

Finally thanks to those who stopped behind to search for ‘Mickledore’.

Ps . We sometimes in this sport have to ‘face the music’ but I draw the line when you have to ‘face the book’ for trying to do the honest and right thing.
