Report. Ten faced the starter for the first of the ‘backend’ series of trails at Seaton and crossing Flimby brow  Izzabella and Try Again had established a good lead, some would say unassailable, but this is Seaton , but they were right as the two hounds kept their lead , although reduced, and Izzabella strode away to win readily. The ‘pack’ were led in by Try Time who just got over the line in front of the table leaders Bracelet and Overwater Arnie, who were having a valuable look around for the future.

The pup trail and after making a hash of the first road crossing, Liz and General James were towards the rear behind Silver Dusk.

Onto the finish and a number of hounds were in with a shout but the in form Liz notched up another win from the close up Swift Harmony and Just Mick.

Nine restricted hounds in the last race and veteran Artisan showed the young ones the ropes , she won easily from Darren Clarke’s Kaiser Sosa and Sugar Ray. Clarkie will be looking forward to next weeks Ryder cup , maybe?

Report.  Michael Renney , Bookmaker and supplier of solid fuels ,ie A Coalman.

At the December meetings of the area committees he was the one leaning on the bar arguing ” black’s white”  A “Crackerjack” of a man and sadly missed. Also Eric (sticks) Walker, a familiar face on the trail field, self ordered shouter out , often missing hounds out, and provider of toffees.

So in Michaels and Eric’s memory we gathered on Tallentire Hill for an afternoon of sport.

First up a small ,but select field for the seniors and victory to Overwater Arnie from Bracelet , close up together with Endure and Issabella.

The senior maidens and Meadow Josie and Capetown had an early lead from Cracking Gold , not far away and the rest with some leeway to make up. Onto the finish which includes a part of the Redmain trail, and here confusion arose , Meadow Josie headed up the Tallentire finish , Capetown kept a straight line and put herself out of contention, although she recovered to finish fourth.

What would happen next, would the pups guess ? answer,No! and jumping the last fence as though it was the Grand National, the Reid brothers Liz and Just Mick fought out the finish with Buble back in third .

We got the pups to come straight but the Pup maidens ,well  that was a different story as they ran straight , then turned , hit the last jump at the wrong angle, tried to get over the cattle grid and eventually headed up the finishing hill, perhaps it would have been the same result had they not have scaled, but I’ll stand by my assessment and say it would still have won.

On to the restricted and if any are going to guess then these will and they didn’t let the side down as the first five just kept going – Razzle Dazzle jumped the gate into the finishing field , the rest just stood , Razzle jumped back again, they had a ‘meeting’ , meanwhile another hound had come straight and was on the finish, not to be outdone Ben 10 came charging up the road , took a sharp right and went onto win -I suppose he deserved it after leading most of the way.

And the veterans , who? after coming down the Redmain trail more times than you’ve had “hot dinners” were bound to get wrong , but , No! never put a foot wrong and the winner ‘Artisan’ over Silver Spangle.

Thanks to all of you who bought raffle tickets and all of you who sold them.

Report. Better late although a bit sketchy.

Scouting for the first two trails and what with trying to keep the sheep back and holding on to my grandson, counting them was hard enough. Anyway I can say that it was a surprise to hear that Try Time didn’t ticket in the seniors as he crossed the last road with fifty yards lead, Bessy, Thorn Dancer were close up as was Lady and the Huntsmans ,as you can see from the result Try TIme was the only one missing.

In the maidens and once more a purple explosion and winning for the second time over the course was Yabadabbadoo , Westgate Rose was second and once more in third was So Be It. This time I was looking at back of the hounds as they crossed (no purple) but they had  Foxparke written all over them.

The pup trail looked to be a one dog race and so it proved as Jenny’s Aura came with a clear lead over Miterdale Rusty and popping up in fourth was Apollo ( one non winner trail left) splitting two more Foxparkes.

The open Restricted and the ‘red ‘un’ , Bewitched had a real tussle with Remember Me and Great Gable with the enigmatic Hunter’s Dale in fourth.

Everytime ‘ Jack’  Hunters is threatened with the ‘chop’ he decides to ‘go’. and a poignant second for Jeanette with Remember Me , for the time being the ‘ Me’ will be Les.

In the veterans and a return to the winners enclosure for Jacob , another red ‘un and sire of Bewitched, he won readily from Langdale Jack and made it a family day at the Show.

Also Ran . Glory – Superstition – Super Sandy – Black Eyed Boy – Full House – Cracking Gold – Mrs McGregor – Maybe – Quiet Siskin -Rickman – Aspire – Borderman –  Blueboy – Sparrowmire Lily – Bant’s Mist – Plan B – Sultan – Persian Prince .

Report. A sunny evening at Fellside but a shade windy and getting colder.

On Calebreck common , about seven minutes running, Denzil aka Washington was in front  of ‘Gracie’ and lady Bethan, onto the finish and here ‘Arnie ‘ had struck the front and kept his advantage to the tape for win number 12, two behind Bracelet, Lady Bethan kept her place and two virtual newcomers to the senior ranks , Razzle Dazzle and Eden Rossi were fourth and fifth.

The puppy trail gave Jenny’s Aura another win on the road to the Junior Championship, Misha finished well to get second place with Swift Harmony in Third.

The maiden trail and a win for Stand By , who came from fourth on The downhill Section of the finish to overhaul Grange Music and Cracking Gold..

This was the final event on the Caldbeck/ Uldale fells and thanks to all the commoners for their permission to run and the landowners , lake Distict national park, for their co-operation.

Also Ran Bobby Dazzler – Jimmy Choo – Flash Dance – Cool Return – Persian Sun – What Look – Popeye – Tagget.

Report. Once again Bracelet and Endure had a head to head battle for the senior trail and once more Bracelet got the better and went onto win by five yards with Sambuca a fast closing third.

In the pup trail a return to winning ways for Liz , she won nicely from Quiet Otter and Just Mick with the ticketing hounds close up . At the start the Chairman ,who was in charge of slipping his hound got a warning for ‘beating the gun’. He pleaded not guilty on the grounds of, the starter twitched and his arms were aching. Anyway it wasn’t me it was Kate Bush.

And on what was developing into a wet night the final trail saw another silent finish as Issabella passed Westgate Belle to record a win for the’ partnership ‘of Brown and Tinnion with veteran Artisan in third.

Open Restricted 1 Huntsman’s Hope 2 Starlight 3 Kaiser Sosa 4 Black Mist 5 Foxparke Chaos 5 Ran Time 20.39.

Report. A disappointing turnout , as one wag pointed out it’s Sunday trailing that’s killing Monday.

In the seniors Try Time upset the ‘jolly’ Songbird, who might have been unlucky as she damaged a leg in running, but take nothing away from the winner, a surprise runner after last week! He stuck to the task and put an even  bigger smile on Evie’s Face.

The ‘General’ looked nailed on in the pups but with ten yards to go Just Mick almost passed him , only to ease and settle for second.

And in the last Huntsman’s Hope finished alone as Starlight did in second place.

Ps In the pups Cool Enough finished third , fifth and sixth, explanation ? ask Lisa -if she’s calmed down !

And enjoying the trails Mr and Mrs Hassall from Northwich, a former greyhound trainer, who was quite au fait with the number of runners.

Report. A day of close finishes only heads and necks separating the first two in all the trails. And , also over the last two meetings only 21seconds between all six short trails. And, what’ difference a day makes’ as Overwater Bessy went awol at the first meet but on Saturday she got up on the line to deprive Bedazzled with Menorah a close third.

The pups and this was a ‘battle royal’ between Buble , two times course winner and table leader Jenny’s Aura, and winning for the third time ,by a head was the Kendal hound Buble.

The maiden trail and Casanova once more prevailed this time at the expense of ‘southern raider’ Grange Music with Meadow Josie a close third.

In the restricted class Eden Rossi went one better than Tuesday when getting the better of Razzle Dazzle and Bewitched and Kerrymore swopped grades to the veterans and was a head winner over Artisan and Silver Spangle.

A question! The extra runner in the maidens, Who was it?

ONW 1 Breeze 2 Captain Jack -3 KIniside Bess 4 Spring Rose 5 Foxparke Babushka . 5 Ran Time 18.06

Report. The senior hounds right from the slip hardly faltered and was an excellent tribute to the ‘Trailhound’ . At the first road crossing all nineteen were in contention, of course they were – they had just been slipped. At the second road crossing the first six were the first six to finish and the first six over the last road. That says; that they hardly altered from start to finish only a slight change of direction on the finish might have had a bearing on the result, anyway  ” Arnie is back” and Endure got the better of Bracelet and stil finished second.

The pup trail and ‘The General’ kept up his championship challenge , by proxy of Silver dusk and Liz running towards the judge and losing ground, but, a wins a win !

Only five non winners and ( cant resist it) breezing up the hill with the help of a following wind was ‘ Breeze’ closely chased by Captain Jack ( Sparra’).

. Also Ran. Miterdale One – Glory – Out Of The Blue -Full House – Quiet Siskin – Issabella – Bant’s Mist – Foxparke Artist.

Report. For the senior trail we observed the hounds as they turned for the finish and here Jenny’s Delight led from Galemire Grace and Song Bird,. Galemire won in the end by a couple of lengths but Song Bird , having missed the gate, lost ground and Lady Anne and Capetown took third and fourth.

Only three pups , but nevertheless an intriguing contest between the table toppers and coming out on top Jenny’s Aura winning by a few lengths, justifying favouritism.

The non – winners are getting thin on the ground and one stable provided four of the seven runners, The ‘Kinnisides and after some delay and deliberation it was Nell that won not Bess,

In the final trail Littman came home unchallenged from Huntsman’s Hope who in turn was clear of the third .

Veterans 1 Artisan 2 Silver Spangle 3 Tagget 4 What Look 5 jimmy Choo 6 Cinnabar . 6 Ran time 18.18.

Report . A warm , muggy evening made it hard work for the hounds but they all coped well and there were some exciting finishes.

All but one of the seniors was in contention ( no mention which one) and up the last field three hounds battled it out , Bracelet getting the nod on the line , in front of ‘Arnie’ with a close third Endure and the fourth , fifth and sixth just behind.

in the juniors four hounds stole an early lead and Hally after doing most of the driving , took a lick, and Telstar took over, beating Silver Dusk who finished behind the judge.

No danger to Wanted ( only the sheriff) in the pup maidens, the even money favourite won by three lengths from Speed On and in the last Artisan and Silver Spangle had a ding- dong battle up the hill where the former won by half a length.

Report.   Travelling down the A 591 towards Keswick  . you look across to Latrigg top and from a fine night you observe low cloud and the liklehood of rain.

Well to start with that’s what we got , then the sun came out, then the low cloud retuned, wellies went on , wellies came off!

The trails – the senior hounds , and a surprise when Explore scooted up the hill to record a three length win over Menorah and Jenny’s Delight.

The pup trail and apparently a mix up in the Patterdale camp resulted in Jenny’s Aura not being entered and this left the door open for Buble who saw off regular rival Sweet Harmony.

In the maidens it was all change for the Langhorn camp from last week where in role reversals Casanova went from third to first and Silverbelle went from first to third.and second both times was Meadow Josie and in the final event Quiet Siskin came away from Eden Rossi to win the restricted class.

PS . On leaving the field I chucked a plum at Wendy Dawson ,” plum job Wendy”I Said , but before she could pick it up Razzle Dazzle snaffled it – the outshot being – wild shites on Sandylands courtesy of Baz’s Plum.

Get the head lad to clean it up !

Report. It is A cold spot Croasdale nestled above Ennerdale Lake below the rolling hills and just for the record the two bookies who went home last week , this time they stayed and the bookie who stayed last week , went home!

Songbird completed a quick double at the expense of Jenny’s Choice and Try Time- and similarly the ‘General ‘ did the same finishing well through the open gates. the result being exactly the same first four as last week, only difference being they were six minutes quicker..

In the last and in the impending gloom – the Foxparkes shone out when taking the first three ticket,  Invisible short heading Hallelujah. Any darker then it would have been Hallelujah as the other would have been ?

At the time of writing three hounds were still missing, and if you happen to visit Egremont tomorrow , you will be sure to see ‘Ructions’ cleaning his car.

The missing hounds have been found . And as for Bill , the latest news is the farmer wants his field back, most of it was on Bill’s car.Lol.

Report.   Marli once more showed her liking for the Helton trail and after her customary look round she only just held the fast finishing Galemire Grace, this win puts her in second place in the senior championship one behind the leader.

Capetown beat a high class maiden field when she came clear of the all the way leader Jazz Band to win by ten yards, Meadow Josie back in third and the veteran Artisan in fourth.

Buble and Razzle Dazzle made it a double day for Wendy Dawson and travelling head lad Russ.

Only three runners in the non- winners and veteran Borderman failed to start, nevertheless the two runners provided the spectators with a close finish , after Spring Rose had lost ground at the road she regained momentum and nearly caught Adventure.

RIP. On Friday Hamish Rose sadly passed away- the funeral will be at Lancaster Crematorium- date to be arranged.

And the members wish a speedy recovery to Maurice Tunstall , who overtaxed himself shouting for ‘Tommy’ at  low Place.

Report. As the day was  spent scouting ,the report has a slightly different slant.

Billy Whizz , late bred, was extremely backward, but patience and perseverance by David and Marie Crowe finally paid off –But ! they have gone on holiday and John and Diane have taken over and what’s more it was a maiden , Ah Well as David is often quoted as saying ‘ a win’s a win’ even if you spent all that time waiting patiently for Billy to finish,  then when you go away in he pops. ” Sods’ Law! By the way he might have been a shade fortunate as the first four did a lap of the field before the last road and allowed the next three to catch them up.

Standing on the last road for the senior maidens and the first bunch came through the gate, down the road to the next gate and it was likened to being attacked by the purple pack of hounds.

In the seniors Jenny’s Delight led down the fell, only to stop at the ‘railway fence’ went away fifth , got up to win only to be demoted from first place for interference to the second hound. Also running prominently and has been stuck on eight wins for too long was Thorn Dancer.
