Report. One week between the two Croasdale Meetings and the seniors 10 minutes faster, pups four minutes  faster, the maidens three minutes faster, and the restricted two. Same book, chapter and verse.

After winning last week by a virtual mile , Tommy’s Legacy had to bring out all the stops to beat the General and in doing so nearly beat the clock as well.

The pups and win number two for Liza and Ed with Babylon ( sleep well) with the favourite in third place.

Malcolm Holmes from Skelton finished First  and Third in the maidens with Stand By and Sultan split by a Kinniside and Dawn followed up last week’s victory when beating  Overwater Jack in the last.

The result shouter out ”  Ructions” , under the weather of late’ had a wry smile on his face when asked to repeat the fifth in the pup trail. Foxparke Shaka Laka Boom Boom, which is an Indian Television series, So that’s what they watch in Coulderton!

Report. 111 runners (And the umpire stood on one leg) at  the midweek meeting at Buttermere and the crack was ” Where’s the pup trailer been” ? Well! He admitted he got a little higher than he should have, but the view was well worth it and the term scenic route comes to mind. Lets face it he didn’t do it on purpose and the hounds went where the trail was laid only it took them longer than usual. The first short (ish) trail and to be honest some made a complete hash of the climb before the finish and the finishing descent as well . Not taking any gloss off the winner Baba O’ Riley who once more sorted it out and finished well clear to record win number three for the  genial ” Bully” and Helpers ( sorry no names )

The favourite Jenny’s delight had a comparative easy victory in the seniors beating kennel mates Kinniside  Meg and Joe and the largest field of the evening the open maidens went to Keswick hound lone Rebel, in front at hallway ,and won easily from Stand by.

Also an easy winner was another Keswick hound , Marlou, who beat  an improving  Overwater Arnie and former kennel mate Overwater Jack in third.

Now for something completely different;: As you have been aware the leader of the puppy championship, Huntsman’s Nimrod , had been missing since Sunday afternoon , when she was spotted on the A 591 near to Hollins Lane , above Burneside. Since then there had been not one confirmed sighting of the hound and to be perfectly honest the worst was feared.

So imagine the surprise when, the only Hound trailer in Burneside , Ian Bell was looking out of his kitchen window when he caught sight of what he thought was a hound.

On further investigation and in true ” Sherlock ” style he opened the front door and in popped  “Nimrod”  down the hallway and into the lounge and onto the settee..

Believe it or believe it not, that’s what happened and theories abound , perhaps she had been taken in by a wellwisher who noticing the publicity decided to leave the hound close to another hound kennel.

She had spent Sunday afternoon until Wednesday evening in a thriving community constantly monitored by all and sundry and was never seen , then! pops up outside the only person with trailhounds, SHERLOCK ‘S on the case.

Report.  The hot weather took it’s toll and as of writing this, Huntsman’s Nimrod is still missing. Only three seniors, and this was reduced to two when Hawkswood returned to the start, and Christmas came early for the backers of Jenny’s liberally priced at 4/6, she won by the proverbial mile and that’s what Miterdale Spirit should have won by in the pups but as they say it’s not over until” the fat lady sings ” and as Spirit wavered on the punishing finish then “Benny” took full advantage  and when Spirit ran wide after jumping the last wall Cuckoo Lane pounced and notched up win number six. The next three finishes were not seen due to “rounding up” and thanks to Richard who brought six pups in the back of his van.

And a first for Jimmy Batty , first mention this season, as Ladybird’s first run of the season and she finished third, No! she finished last!, anyway she ran well considering both her and her owner have eaten all the pies .

Report. Firstly there is only one timekeeper, the official one !. Mind you the pups seem to take a long time and as for the favourite , well! it was rubbed down , bedded down before any other showed on the finish, only it finished at the start. Take nothing away from ” Bully” as Baba O’ Riley scored win number two over the only other open winner in the field Babylon.

In the seniors it was hard work and Jenny’s Aura never got past Potter’s Park ( 8 minutes) and Tommy’s Legacy , who at half -way was a distant fourth, won very easily from Persian Prince who is back with Mike Watson.

The open maidens and a three hound finish as Paddywack, Homeward Dude  tried to Escape. They finished in that order Paddywack ( give him a bone) won in a photo for David Crowe and kennel hands John and Diane  Bromage)

Report. After a pleasant afternoon , a pleasant night followed and a tip in itself when Tommy’s Legacy ran here in preference to Kirkland, finishing seventh last week he improved to win beating  rank outsider  Howgill Annabella by 20 metres.

In the pups the first leg of a another double for the Dearham kennel, plus birthday boy Darren, when Rover won his first open trail just beating Nashville and the long time leader Tom Thumb in third . A trail consisting of 19 runners of which 14 were non-winners then followed the non- winners and four hounds had established a good lead and after the lead had chopped and changed  it was Cracking Spirit that prevailed denying the Mcmaster/ Abram plus Darren and Sharon a treble with Rita.

The final trail and after Hunter’s Dale had finished alone ,it was alleged that he hadn’t completed the full course and was subsequently disqualified and the race awarded to Rhyme. The result is subject to confirmation.

Report. Three bookies !!!! Now that’s a turn up for  the book, and the score 2-2. In the seniors Eclipse led all the way to notch win number two, the favourite Arizona finished well back together with the fancied Washington and further back was Canny Mover ,the table leader. Finishing second once more having finished second to Liz last week was Silver Dusk with Buble in third.

Even money shot Best Mate completed a Lazonby double when he beat the three R’S , Rover, Ranger and Rhythm and is fast becoming Lynn and Lisa’s pin up hound, the long time leader Tom Thumb was in fifth.

The non-winners , and compensation for the Dearham kennel when the two R’s were first and second in the shape of Rhyme and Rita and another R in third ,  Raven Crag,

Popping up in the restricted trail was Steel End in front of The Magician and veteran Aspire.

Report. From the sublime to the ridiculous the saying goes , red hot on Monday ,soaked to the skin on Wednesday. Jenny’s Aura coped with the rain and the favourite beat Miterdale Copper by ten metres with Gracie similarly in third and Jenny’s Delight in fourth. LIz and Thorn Diamond were recovered later on that evening.

The pup trail and after about five minutes the majority of the runners retuned to the start and then ensued something reminiscent of a rodeo as they circled the trail field in leaps and bounds. Meanwhile competing the course and notching his first win was Bully’s Baba O’ Riley; named after a song by the Who, followed by five pups all gaining their first tickets.

It was getting like Autumn as the day grew darker and up popped Westgate Autumn to win the Maidens courtesy of a white hound who preferred a lap of the finishing field instead of the bait tin.

The all-in and I was All-in and went home .hence no sixth in the last.

You know it is inclement weather when Judge Tommy doesn’t sign the winning tickets . By the way if he had done he would be still there writing out Foxparke Shaka Laka Boom Boom.

Report. A warm day greeted the hounds and spectators to the tail end of High Street , the old Roman road that runs from Ravenglass to Penrith. The backdrop to the east , Lowther Castle and from the senior start you can see the summit of the Skiddaw range including Saddleback.

That’s the geography lesson , the trails and the weather would have the last say as it took its toll of tired hounds, in the seniors four hounds pulled well clear , table topper Canny Mover ,after a string of seconds , got her head in front and fended off the determined challenge of Tommy’s Legacy, a hot day specialist ,looking for his first win of the season, Denzil aka Washington was third and the favourite Arizona was fourth.

The senior maidens, and due to a rule change only bona – fide hounds were eligible;

whether this benefits trailing – we will wait and see!

The maidens was a runaway victory for the Loan’s Lone Rebel ( International winner at Spadeadam  last season)  Thorn Diamond won the race for second over the Milburn’s Frankel.

The puppy trail and my partners Best Mate (not me) came from fifth place to win going away from Ranger ,thwarting the Dearham gang of a unique treble as both Silver Dusk and Rover won their respective trails, Silver Dusk beating Jenny’s Breeze and Rover in front of kennelmates Rhyme and Rita.

The final event and former Border hound Denton Eclipse lead to the last foot of the trail only to be pounced on by Aspire with Jazz Singer in third

That was three wins for the Westmorland Area , Two for Cockermouth and Workington and one for Carlisle/ Penrith.

And all hounds were accounted for including the hooligan , the easy rider sped off into the sunset, John was in his counting house, counting out a profit of over £500 and thanks to The Carlisle and Penrith Area under the guidance of Paul Airey, to his wife and gateperson Kate, to entry takers Margaret and Amy, the trailers Duncan and Craig, Judge Wak , Starter John, Marker Willy, the scouts Dickie, Gordon and Mary and they weren’t standing on the trail , any hounds that went near them were wrong. Oh!, the raffle ticket sellers was it Pat? never bought any!.  the catchers and most of all the general public including two from Durham and a party from Denmark, who after listening to an explanation of what was happening from James Irving, were no wiser!!!! “Double Dutch” LOL.

Report. Saturday read Wednesday as far as the seniors are concerned with Jenny’s Aura and Canny Mover , same result ,same distance with an improving Jenny’s Delight not far behind in third and watch out for Tommy’s Legacy, a close  fourth.

The pup trail and Best Mate notched up his second win when he nipped past the odds-on favourite Huntsman’s Nimrod in the final strides.

The non- winners and for a reason yet to be established all the runners except one disappeared over the hill in completely the wrong direction, this left the way clear for Sparrowmire lassie , who to her credit stuck to the trail and won by many a mile,the rest came in dribs and drabs well into the evening.
