Report. It could have been a fourtimer, as in finishing second , Huntsman’s Novice was thwarted by the “water jump” and Super Sun’s finishing flurry. The Windermere hound  came from fourth position, and taking advantage of the first three hesitating at the water, won and putting his trainer Peter Green in the winners enclosure for the first time since he bought a round.

The evening meeting got underway with a facile win for Jenny’s Aura, Galemire Grace was second and Buble third.

The juniors and a terrific finish as Cuckoo Lane coming from 10 metres back in second,  just failed in nailing Nimbus on the line, win number 13 for the table leader.

It was reported that Jenny’s Delight is on the easy list after a knock at Coniston and not having a going night at newlands was a bit harsh.

Report. Only six runners for the seniors and a cheer when Jimmy Batty received his first ticket of the season albeit for finishing last. Marlou won and was the first leg of a Borrowdale double with Manna , who lost her maiden tag winning the restricted event.. The favourite in the seniors Jenny’s Delight was having an off day, and winning by a couple of lengths , and her first open win of the season for Christine Brownlee was Marlou and like the proverbial bus ,along comes another when Manna got the better of Dawn in a close restricted race in which a number of hounds had chances.

The disappointment of the meeting was that the juniors ran out of time denying Huntsman’s Nimbus ,who finished alone,  win number thirteen .

In the fading light, it is nearly the longest day, the veterans were led home by the aptly named Night Vision, the rest followed it home , and a smile on the faces of Gerard and Joe ( double act?) minus Neil.

Safe journey home for everybody including immovable Pat Black ,who doesn’t like driving in the dark, should go to specsavers for Night Vision specs, canny lass !

Report. An Overwater double on the run up to the International on Saturday, a pointer , maybe , and a couple of hounds getting tickets for the first time this season.

Back to Overwater and especially Arnie , who , this time last year was on death’s doorstep with an horrific stomach injury, and last night showed he was far away from ‘valhalla’, with an easy victory over Silver Dusk and Sambuca..

In the pups ,there were  apparently only two runners as Overwater Seth and the odds on favourite Best Mate finished minutes in front of anything else. Seth came onto the finish with an unassailable lead and Best Mate’s attempt to catch him was futile.

In the last the Vice- Chairman’s Meadow Josie kept on determinedly to beat Issabella and Thorn Diamond

Report : We started dry and finished wet( bit like a night in the pub)

In the seniors Jenny’s Delight scored her second win of the week by a hundred yards from the much improved Overwater Jack with Marlou back In third. As the night deteriorated the pups on coming through the last wall gap and only a field to go for no reason put a circle in and consequently threw any chance of winning away , the culprit by all accounts might have been  a “Huntsman” but take nothing away from Butterfly , who flew in! a welcome win for Tom and Liz Poss.

Now you win one and number two wasn’t far away , Great Gable was adjudged to have prevailed in the last but on consulting the camera the result was reversed and Yogi Bear was given the verdict by a head, those who had left the field thought Yogi had won anyway and it was heard that the result should have stood and F*** the camera. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but there isn’t much point in placing a camera in position then completely ignoring it.

The Dearham kennel of Joe Abram and Nicola McMaster , ably assisted by Darren, Sharon and Sadie, scored a unique five timer last night when the progeny of Endure – Silver Spangle /. Silver Charm filled the first five places ,. And according to the market the  favourite was last and the least fancied was first, or another way was the two Dogs were bookends and the bitches in the middle.

Other than that in the seniors Washington led at the first and last road and was passed by Bronco after crossing the line, been in front too long?. It’s the line that counts , the same applying in the last when most onlookers thought that “Josie ” had got up on the line, but no she had to settle for second place behind Kinniside Beauty with her two kennelmates Dixie and Spot in third and fourth.

Report. Without a break in the weather it is inevitable that there are going to be small fields and this was evident in the seniors  when only five faced the starter.

Jenny’ s Delight had a half a minute lead at halfway and the two Borrowdale hounds were in a similar position behind the second hound but it was all change on the downward slope to the uphill finish when four hounds were in with a chance.

Jenny’s Delight negotiated the beck crossing better than her rivals and won by 100 yards from Menorah.

The pups found it difficult and a number returned to the start, that left the way clear for Huntsman’s Nimbus , who’s only danger was the clock. She had 34 seconds to spare and a lot more in front of kennelmate Huntsman’s Noel.

The veterans next, correction maidens, won by a veteran over another one second and fourth and fifth. Miterdale Proper despite going behind the judge held on to beat the ageless Tagget ( Senior International winner in 2011) with a young Eden Rocco in third and 2013 puppy champion Jenny’s Choice in fourth.

And in the restricted trail , the fastest of the three short trails was the red ‘un Bewitched just in front of Overwater Jack and another veteran Night Vision.

Report. No bookies even Jimmy Batty was smiling, and more so when Overwater Jack overturned the two hotpots in the seniors.  David Crowe had a winning smile, the third Overwater in a week but this is Eskdale water not Uldale . Jack won by 200 yards and huntsman’s Major ,once more , was reluctant to race and finished with the maidens.

Not to be outdone the Glenridding kennel were soon back on the winning trail when Nimrod,unaffected by her stroll  around Burneside, romped home to an easy win. And unaffected by being a shade rotund, Cherish won the maiden trail easily from Jazz singer and another Huntsman’s “Jenny”. And in the fastest time of the night Marlou won the All -In

On a fine night you can’t find another trail field that matches Kirkstone and its surrounding fells and people were still turning onto the field long after most had gone home.

Now you might look at the times of the two short trails and think ” Now that’s quick”

but the promoter shortened the trails because of the dry weather. The senior trail had to go the full distance and a ” Jenny ” 1/2 with Marlou in third.

The pups and a convincing win for Cuckoo Lane by 50 yards from table leader Huntsman’s Nimrod, his seventh win equal with his brother and Best Mate.

To conclude the evening Lady Bethan held of the challenge of ” Gracie” and a three – nil victory for the punters, by the way the last trail was just over the  minimum time, just as predicted by anon.
