Report. 132 hounds on a coldish night on the leaps, a shortage of midweek trails , a growing trend, but if you relish competition then this is the game.

and competitive it was , in the seniors it was “take on ” the Huntsman’s, and the huntsman’s prevailed with three of the first four. a revitalised Huntsman’s major , runner-up in the 2017 puppy championship, last season was a “gap” year and prepared himself for a crack at the maiden championship this season, well we know what happened there so now its all eyes on the championship.. Win number three was by five yards from the improving “Overwater Hally” perhaps a successor to the ill-fated Arnie ”

From which  mighty oak trees grow ” Acorn kept up her challenge for the puppy title with win number four ( take note lynn) at the expense of ,not a huntsman’s but a Jenny, Oracle no Less !

In the gloom the last two events were won  by  Prospect Spot and from a successful litter, meadow spot, sister too “Cuckkoo and matey boy.

The May day trails were held on Helton fell and under the auspices of the Carlisle and Penrith area and their Chair, who was also trails manager , Paul Airey did an excellent job and provided the spectators with six , keenly run trails. Our thanks go to the trail layers Willy, Craig and Duncan, john , starter an timekeeper , Wak for judging, Ann  the lonely gate person..

The Landowners and farmers , sponsors etc. The day resulted in a profit of £164 for the HTA funds.

And not forgetting the persons who scouted the farm road , after paying to enter ,they spent all afternoon on the road, Chris and Sheila Swainson.

Report.: 48 in the All In Trail or £ 96, a nice boost to the funds, the trail was won rather easily by Buble  with four  maidens not far behind. The evening got under way with a decisive win for huntsman’s major ahead of four maidens.

The pup trail was, on paper , Limber against the field , but the favourite failed to ticket , explanation was ” never had any luck here”. The old Bolton stadium gained his first win– Reebok, this time the first three were maidens.

After a scale in the pup trail Jenny’s Oracle came away clear of Acorn and Huntsman and the first win of the season for Laal Lisa as “Billy”aka Black Legend bt Mine , or was it yours or their’s, no it was Mine! in the Open Maidens and veteran Galemire Grace romped home in the restricted trail

Report, A bit more land for the seniors ,4 minutes extra, and “Shadow! ” turned the tables on ” Major ” to register win number 4. A first win of the season for Huntsman , who had shown promise in the practice trails and was quietly fancied for major honours.

The first trail was run in murky conditions , so you could rightly imagine that the two short trails were run in similar conditions , hence a thin report concluding in Prospect Spot winning the last and from where we were standing there wasn’t much prospect of seeing anything.

The “tea-van” seemed to be doing well as there was no room at the inn, then it was raining and most of the “customers ” were sheltering.

PS you put signs out  to help the plebs and a trail within a week at the same place you would expect no problems ,

Then , why was the tea -van heading up the dead – end road to nowhere.

Report’  What a nice way to spend an Easter Monday, far from the maddening crowd, tucked away up the vale of Miterdale surrounded by 80 hounds and umpteen children, bliss !!!!.

Here/s one for the plebs if the short trails had all run together would the winners and some placed hounds finished within half a minute of each other.

In the senior trail former puppy champ Miterdale Shadow went to the top of the championship with win number three , he was well clear of “Benny” aka cuckoo Lane ,who is also on three wins for the season.

In the pup trail course winner Acorn had a handy lead on the descent  to low Place but Saturday’s winner  Maggies Dream possessed a stronger finish and won by length.and in the maiden trail another of Saturday’s winners O’l Blue eyes came close only to be beaten by a ” southerner ” Kaiser Sosa.

Stand by came from the back to win the restricted trail and in the veterans another former champ Overwater Arnie recorded the fastest time when he outpointed Tommy’s legacy and deny the Graham kennel a double and ” Grace followed Tommy and Arnie.
