Report. As the saying goes “There’s more life on a tramp’s vest ”  Four trails 29 runners, one bookie and a handful of spectators.  And to say that ” Major won easily is an understatement , to say they were not in the same parish might be more apt if we knew where the boundaries were,  and the distance was even greater between second and third.

Report. .  Is the senior championship a two hound race ? After last night ” Shadow ” is still in the hunt and Sophie was adamant that, without Mam and dad,, she could top the table. Not being able to drive -paused no problem, but any longer on the finish, she might run out of “Busters”.

Report. cold fell ,once more living up to its name , it was akin to winter..It was that cold that Tommy Newall fell off his perch ie his shooting stick, poor Tom went down like a sack of spuds and it took all the efforts  of the remaining catchers to lift him back up.( Bill would have laughed )

Nimrod and Acorn kept up their championship challenge with two convincing victories and the maiden winner came from fourth to win, carrying top weight, Zulu came charging through even Michael Caine wouldn’t have stopped him and  with that twin  he was retired for the season, and Mal and Ann will be concentrating on their 2020 pup-  Good vision.

Report:  Only four for the seniors nevertheless  there was controversy when Queen finished in the wrong field , although only feet from the judge ,she was not judged and only three , led by “Shadow” were judged. After an area meeting Queen was re-instated in second position, which , morally was where she finished, but rules are rules and as the saying goes they are meant to be broken.

Acorn took another step towards the championship with a hard fought win ,coming onto the final two fields five of the six had a winning chance, but then that whistle started to blow.

The other three trails also had a familiar look about them and could have gone to anyone of, at least five of the runners/

Summary- All five favourites won and did the lone bookie go home winning, well she had £70 of my pension and like Jimmy batty she was nearly all-round in most. Included in these trails was a winning double for Joanne and Buzz with two thorns, they were in my side all day.

Ps for the public “all-Round” means cannot lose in the case of “Batty” it means all-round..

Report. The odds-on Crazy was pushed all the way to the post by New Agenda , who showed in front on the long downhill finish and in the end finished a good second to the championship leader..

A close finish to the puppy trail ,the camera giving the nod to Reebok over the odds-on Acorn , who came with a winning lead but an odd error and a shut gate saw her coming into the last field with eight meters to find, she failed by a nose.

Sir David Beckham AKA  Golden Balls put a smile on Gracie’s face but not on her grand mothers ( Billy Elliot) when he won the last by five meters from Night Vision and  Trinket.

A point. One or two slippers of late are “beating the gun” most are accidental and seeing some hounds on the starting line I am not surprised ,, It is the starters  job to see that they obey his instructions and  the answer is not a slanging match in the middle of the trail field.

report . On a dismal evening with the light fading fast, not only another double for the Patterdale kennel of Denise bland but first three in the seniors and one-two in the juniors. The Huntsman’s are in full cry a double championship is a distinct possibility, watch this space.

In the senior trail Major had the early lead but Nimrod always had him covered and won stylishly similarly the two pups Oracle and Orchid’/

Sweet Harmony held off the challenge of Eden Raine to win by half a length and Explore passed both Thorn Fire and Mysterious to keep her in the race for veteran Champion.

Report, A blustery day consisting of sunshine and showers’ in the seniors ,Jenny’s Aura re-routed from the cancelled  Loweswater show showed a clean pair of heels to most of her champion rivals has she attempts to hold on to her crown, Queen chased her up the long uphill climb to the tape but had to settle for second with ” Geoffrey” in third for Steve as Ian was on the Roodeye. .

The senior maidens and Trev finished too fast for Sinbad and Hooligan coming from third to register a win for Tanya.

Here is a twist to the race feeding of hounds- the senior winner , the non winners first and the puppy second were all due to run on Sunday,  when trailing was cancelled, they ran Saturday instead,

The veterans trail saw the favourite Thon Fire gain a six points ,to make  t he veterans championship an interesting affair, between Thorn Fire – Tommy’s Legacy and  Aspire..

  Report . It isn’t often that a hound is passed on the finish of Ennerdale, But  Forlorn Spring managed to edge out Copper on the line with the favourite crazy back in third , these three were well clear of the rest.And that was the story of the day , S ully held on in the pups, Zulu ,dwarfing Iris used this to his advantage and Jiggly Puff had a similar experiance in the last.

One mug punter struck ,what was a giveaway bet, Even money a Foxparke to win the open maidens. 8 runners out of 21 and didn’t even get a ticket..
