Report. I suppose it would be quite difficult to give a report on the Wasdale Trails without mentioning the Low Place kennels in Miterdale, simply because they won all three, there you are ‘done and dusted’. Next>
As you turn left at Santon and head up the road towards the head of Wasdale, after a few hundred yards you ’round a bend’ and in front of you is , in my eyes, one of the Lake Districts most stupendous views with Kirk Fell commanding the center, Lingmell and Great Gable to the right and Red Pike to the left and nestled next to the trail field St Olaf’s church.
First up the seniors and it’s a good job it was a fine night as the trails were advertised a quarter of an hour late and like the proverbial ‘bride’ the starting end trailer, was running late ,’ Arthur Temple scurried up the field , to the ribald shouts of ‘ where’ve ya bin’.
As the seniors came into view on the breast of Lingmell – There were four hounds clear including course winner Huntsman’s Hope and Free Spirit, who enjoys the ambience of Wasdale. These two hounds gained a nice lead over Ladybird and Thorn Dancer, who , incidentally, was making her first visit. Over the last wall and it was number one of a unique treble , Free Spirit, who had a few yards over ‘Hope’ and held on for victory.
Only seven pups and with only three ‘ in the race’ reduced to two on the finish, it was a competent win for Miterdale Rusty over Manna. That made two up and one to go for Steph and Tony , could they make it three . ‘ Easy Peazy’ – Miterdale Prim came away in the last to beat the ‘Kinniside pair of Bess and Nell.
There you have it , A treble for the Steele family from Miterdale in Eskdale, just thought i’d mention it.!
We are not quite finished- in the last trail it was noticed that a certain hound ,who’s ‘identity will remain a secret, ran across the fell like a ‘ scalded cat’. It made up a vast amount of ground and for me, it is the fastest I’ve seen run over rough terrain except perhaps for ‘ Joss Naylor’.
Now for something completely different:
Two trailers, who , last weekend, after walking a trail decided to partake of liquid refreshment on the way home. As they ‘put it’ ‘a couple of shandies’- Then the waft of cooking aroused their hunger pangs and completely oblivious to the fact of ‘home cooking’ tucked into pizza and chips. Then they went home to a well deserved meal- I leave the rest to your imagination. One thing though, one of them was having Pizza and Chips——– AGAIN!
By the way – no names but for the tale we will call them Tony and Ian.
