REPORT
Another pleasant evening in the Rusland valley and four good trails – a testament to the well organised and hard working committee and all their helpers. Well done to all.
In the senior trail a good field of 15 and coming off the first half it was Songbird setting the pace with a few yards advantage over Tuesday’s winner Black Eyed Pea. Coming into sight on the back fell and six hounds had pulled clear. Jenny’s Choice took up the initiative over Songbird and Explore and dropping into the last road Songbird once again pulled clear and had a good lead out of our sight. However, Jenny’s Choice and Explore had got back on terms crossing the beck and heading for home and it was Choice that proved the strongest and he went on to open his account with Explore finishing well to take second and Songbird taking third.
Jenny went on to score her first winning double when Jenny’s Delight claimed first place in the pups. Huntsman’s Kraka was installed as the favourite and she had established a comfortable lead dropping in off the fell but once again they bunched up and it was Russ & Wendy’s improving bitch hound Paloma Faith who had been second going through that lead for a long way up the finish but Jenny’s Delight has a good turn of foot in the closing stages and the youngster hit the front close home to also score her first success.
Another good finish developed in the open restricted and the lead changed hands several times on the run in. Any one of five hounds held winning chances but it was the Wilson & Stainton’s pair Flawless and Highness that came to the fore with Tia’s charge just beating Steph’s in an exciting finale. Mrs McGregor filled the other principle place.
Last but not least the veterans and in another nailbiter it was Denis Peare & Jackie Gill’s Valhalla that came through to take up the mantle in the closing stages after her kennelmate Cinnabar had done most of the work. The Little Langdale seven year old just got the verdict by a head over James & Stephen’s Da Look who tried his very best in the last field. Tagget was a clear third
