20th July 2023 – Message from Secretary

GRASMERE SPORTS – Sunday 27th August – the HTA have been working closely with the organizers of Grasmere Sports to try and improve the viability of the Hound trails on the day and to avoid a repeat of last year. So this year we have managed to get an additional trail at Grasmere a head of the actual Sports day trail so that hounds can become more familiar with the trail. The Sports Committee along with South Lakes Committee and with sponsorship from Criffle Vue, Private Hire have agreed to put up additional prize money in the form of Cash For Points with £200 available for the first top three hounds over the two events with double points on offer for the trails on Sports Day (£125, £50, £25). Along side the additional prize money the Sports Committee have worked closely with us and have listened and have agreed to support the trails by asking for quite when the hounds come on to the sports field. Andy Horn has agreed to provide a running commentary on the hounds as they slip and finish. The Sports Committee have also agreed to a Puppy Show which will take place in the main arena with prize money and rosettes. Anyone wanting to attend can access tickets at a reduce price from myself £8 per adult and £3 per child. If you turn up on the day then you will have to pay full price (on the day £15 per adult, £5 per child, Online tickets are also available £12 per adult, £5 per child, Family Ticket (2+2) £28 on line only. Hopefully it will be a good day and there will be a good turn out of hounds to show case the sport.

Thanks Fiona

19th July 2023 – Message from Whitehaven Area

Its with great sadness that i write to notify you of the passing of Tommy Newall, former Chair of the Whiteahven Area, member of the Executive Committee and Life Member of the Association. Tommy past away suddenly yesterday. Tommy was involved in hound trailing most of his life fitting the trails around his work for the Council. in the early days he was involved in running hounds with him having part shares in a hound called Wonder which apparently won Grasmere Sports. In later years he became involved in the Whitehaven Area before taking over as Chairman. Tommy was a stickler for the rules and he never minced his words when dealing with people who he thought had broken them. He was an active member of the Executive Committee and was awarded a Life membership for his service over the years. A lovely man who will be sadly missed by all who new him. There will be a minutes silence before the senior hounds are slipped at Cold fell tonight. Our condolences go to his family and friends.

Christine.

21st June 2023 – Message from the Executive Committee

At the Executive meeting on Sunday there was a discussion regarding the current weather conditions and the following was agreed by the Executive Committee:

Due to the predicted continuation of the hot weather the Executive Committee have temporarily amended rule 60.1 (No additional grades may be included unless advertised seven days in advance) and rule 83.5 – P (No betting allowed on All In trails)

Until the 31st of August where the promoter considers the running conditions to be challenging for hounds due to hard ground and hot temperatures they can:

     a. Put an All-In trail on at short notice, 72 hours prior to the actual event and for this request to be communicated to the Secretary to be advertise on the official web page

and

    b.        During the above period all All-In trails will be open to betting

As well as the above the Executive Committee encourages promoters to consider the following regarding running trails in these challenging conditions due to hard ground and hot temperatures to:

a. Where possible the Senior Hound trail should be shortened to accommodate for the above but to still follow current rules regarding trail times (would need to be 25 minutes long minimum)

b. Trail times should be move where possible to allow the hounds to run when the air temperature is cooler preferably in the morning

c. For the Promoter to cancel the trails when they think the conditions are too challenging for the hounds after considering all of the above

Thanks Fiona
