17th August 2023 – message from the secretary

It has been brought to my attention that the stated prize money in the block advert for the Open Pups and the Open Restricted trails at Rydal Sheep Dog Trials was not issued today by the promoter of the trails. I have been in touch with the promoter, Mike Thornton and raised this with him. He confirmed that as far as he was aware the prize money for all three trails, as advertised in the block advert, was correct however the committee responsible for allocating the prize money obviously thought this was different. He has confirmed that he will bring this issue to the attention of the Committee when they next meet and he said he would let me know the outcome of those discussions.

Also just to be aware that the promoter for the Wythop trail has just confirmed today that the Maurice Bewley Memorial Trophies will be run for over two trails at Wythop. This relates to the Open Maiden and the Open Restricted trails only. Trophy for each one. Not to be confused with the points competition also run over the two trails but including the hounds and pups only, the winner with most point in each grade will receive a trophy in memory of ‘Nasher’ .

Thanks Fiona

30th July 2023 – Message from Whitehaven Area

It is with sadness that I report that Bobby Cameron has died, Bobby had hounds in the late 1970’s such as Palm Beech and Palm Springs. Our condolences go to Bobby’s family and friends. It is also with great sadness that I report that Rhona Watson has past away, her husband Jackie passed away a few weeks ago. Again our condolences got to their family and friends.

Thanks Christine

28th July 2023 – Message from Secretary

  1. Just a reminder that i have reduced price tickets for Grasmere Sports £8 adults £3 children, i will be at the trails on the 5th August, 7th August and the 12th August as well as the 20th August. I only have a limited number so it will be first come first served.
  2. Can those who have not already returned trophies for the Premier Trails please do so as soon as possible please. Hounds – Kirkhead Rebel, Maiden – Kinniside Dan, Pups – Huntsman’s Rebel, Puppy Maiden – Eden Redarna Open Restricted – Huntsman’s Nimrod, Veteran – General James.
  3. If anyone has any really old Photos or memorabilia related to hound trailing the Junior Club are looking to get involved with a project at the Beacon Unit at Whitehaven that will show case traditional Cumbrian Sports. The photos will be well looked after and returned so if anyone has anything can you either give it to Joanna or myself.
  4. Finally just a reminder that if anyone has a dog out at the end of the trail, according to the rule book they must inform the secretary, it is the owners responsibility not the promoter although many of the promoters do notify me. I appreciate that it is the last thing on your mind when you have a hound missing but a quick phone call or text would be sufficient. Just a gentle reminder.
  5. Thank you – Fiona
