Report. Michael Renney , Bookmaker and supplier of solid fuels ,ie A Coalman.
At the December meetings of the area committees he was the one leaning on the bar arguing ” black’s white” A “Crackerjack” of a man and sadly missed. Also Eric (sticks) Walker, a familiar face on the trail field, self ordered shouter out , often missing hounds out, and provider of toffees.
So in Michaels and Eric’s memory we gathered on Tallentire Hill for an afternoon of sport.
First up a small ,but select field for the seniors and victory to Overwater Arnie from Bracelet , close up together with Endure and Issabella.
The senior maidens and Meadow Josie and Capetown had an early lead from Cracking Gold , not far away and the rest with some leeway to make up. Onto the finish which includes a part of the Redmain trail, and here confusion arose , Meadow Josie headed up the Tallentire finish , Capetown kept a straight line and put herself out of contention, although she recovered to finish fourth.
What would happen next, would the pups guess ? answer,No! and jumping the last fence as though it was the Grand National, the Reid brothers Liz and Just Mick fought out the finish with Buble back in third .
We got the pups to come straight but the Pup maidens ,well that was a different story as they ran straight , then turned , hit the last jump at the wrong angle, tried to get over the cattle grid and eventually headed up the finishing hill, perhaps it would have been the same result had they not have scaled, but I’ll stand by my assessment and say it would still have won.
On to the restricted and if any are going to guess then these will and they didn’t let the side down as the first five just kept going – Razzle Dazzle jumped the gate into the finishing field , the rest just stood , Razzle jumped back again, they had a ‘meeting’ , meanwhile another hound had come straight and was on the finish, not to be outdone Ben 10 came charging up the road , took a sharp right and went onto win -I suppose he deserved it after leading most of the way.
And the veterans , who? after coming down the Redmain trail more times than you’ve had “hot dinners” were bound to get wrong , but , No! never put a foot wrong and the winner ‘Artisan’ over Silver Spangle.
Thanks to all of you who bought raffle tickets and all of you who sold them.
