Report. Once again the short trails were marred by some of the hounds striking the senior trail in reverse. The organising body must , in fairness to everybody concerned, review the trail and if possible make corrections to alleviate the situation.. To sum up out of the seven juniors three went astray , in the pup maidens all 17 started in the wrong direction but luckily struck the senior trail at a different angle and went the correct way and in the veterans three hounds didn’t falter, and after going back and forth on the footpath nine of them followed leaving five to go awol. The conjecture from the last race is if three went without hesitation ,why didn’t the rest?.
Back to the trails and ‘Batty’ was in winning form and after Ladybird’s narrow victory over Debra said, ‘what price for the senior championship’. Last seasons champion Prudence was in the field but lost all chance when scaling badly at the start eventually going away next to last. Also running this seasons joint leaders who finished third and sixth.
The senior maidens and if there was an award for perseverance then John and Ann Hoggarth would be candidates. Skidaddle ( red line) put a smile on both their faces when coming away from one of the six Foxparkes to win easily, Yabadabadoo ( red line) was second and that’s what ‘Hoggy’ was shouting.
The next three trails and enforced scouting meant two of the trails were missed but in the pup maidens Sweet Harmony , the favourite, held off the strong challenge of Accolade who seemed to ease after looking a likely winner 30 metres out.
And who should turn up on her yearly visit none other than the ex promoter of Oulton trails – Marion , who travelled there with her bus pass !
A theory ,from a spectator, as to why the hounds scaled badly. It is because there are two fox dens in close proximity to the trail and another 100 yards away are the hunt kennels !!!
