The Pup show overall winner was a dog pup bred Kyza – Rose Report A typical September afternoon in the vale of Kentmere and it is fast becoming a ‘Thorny Issue’.
In the seniors and as they approached the last road Where’s wallie had a commanding lead but in the final meadow , ‘Ranger’ had made up the ground but was always being held until five metes from the line Where Wallie took ‘Ranger’s ground and was subsequently disqualified from second place ,having been passed in the ‘dying ‘ strides promoting Canny to second place.
The second trail and a one off event ,a restricted trail on the senior drag This event only attracted 7 runners and the spoils went to Bedazzled from the favourite Tommy’s Legacy.
In the pup trail Marlou had a comfortable lead but ,once again, it was all change on the run in as ‘local’ Thorn Dancer took up the running and came away to win easily from the unlucky Marlou.
There was a bunched finish for the Maidens and leading the pack were Persian Prince Fullhouse and Eden Rocco and the ‘winner is ‘ the one in the middle’; that’s Ian and Ann Bell with yet another Persian, by a shorthead.
That left one event and after winning one trail and the odd raffle prize it had to be Colleen for a treble, she beat Thorn Girl by ten yards,
I met an English woman ‘come’ Aussie who originally hailed from Crosthwaite and told me ‘ there was more hounds in my day’ and ‘When was that ? I inquired .
When Whitbarrow Lad was Champion — that was in 1954 only 61 years ago.
