Report. The 2018 season got underway at Bower House on a cold but dry afternoon, where 101 hounds faced the starter and they all were not all spotted and black and white .
In the seniors Thorn Dancer led at half way but the favourite and course winner Try Time from the Moore stable was close in attendance and he came into the finishing field with a good lead which was whittled away by the strong finish of Kinniside Joe with last seasons junior champ close behind.
The pups and the start sorted them out, the two jumps soon after the start caused a few problems and the race was won and lost here. on to the finish and Awesome and Cuckoo Lane had an exciting finish ,coming from second and third they crossed the line practically as one “Benny” getting the short head verdict.
In the maidens Miterdale Rusty squandered a lead and just held on to deny former Chairman Roy Laidler a rare if unknown double., Cuchulainn was second and Night Vision in third.
The all- In and although the fancied Miterdale Steele won eyes were on future winners and the third Galemire Grace ( A Maiden ) Overwater Arnie Championship contender and Tommy’s Legacy were pencilled in.
Ps. Cuckoo Lane is named after Thwaites Lane in Windermere , on which, under the Railway Bridge as kids, we shouted ” Cuckoo” for it’s echo effect. I did it a few weeks ago with my grandson, 70 year old shouting” Cuckoo -Cuckoo,” he thought I’d “lost the plot” My Grandads ” Cuckoo”.
