Report:
The 2016 season got under way at Bower House today and the first winner of the season was last seasons championship runner- up Overwater Arnie, who got the better of Jenny’s Choice to win comfortable. The kennelmates Debra and Thorn Dancer were well back in third and fourth and Free Spirit , now with the Steeles a close fifth.
In the juniors a close finish between the first four, after first missing the last gap and then casting on the run in, it was Overwater Hally that got up on the tape to beat the well backed Canny Mover with a clipped Yorkshire Lad in third and just behind in fourth the local copper.
A 15/1 double for the Overwater stable James and associates, could they make it a treble with ‘Jack’ in the Open Maidens.
He finished ‘just out’ behind Les and Pat Black’s Storth hound Canny Girl who won rather reluctantly from ‘ Tommy’ What Look by a few feet with a couple of Miterdales in third and fourth.
On to the final event and in the twilight or as somebody remarked they are all looking through their binoculars and ‘to be honest’ you couldn’t see a thing. Out of the gloom appeared Tommy’s Legacy and he won easily from the Borrowdale pair of Menorah and Marlou split by the aptly named Night Vision.
The discussion that followed went —-‘ what are we going to do on Monday,? if the weather is the same the last trail will be run in the dark’ . Then somebody remembered the clocks alter tonight – nuff said !
